HEALTH AND PE SYLLABUS
Teachers: Coach Weaver
The physical education curriculum at Pickens County Middle School this year will include four–nine week blocks. The four blocks will consist of: Health, Weight Training, and Conditioning, and Physical Fitness.
Health:
Goal: To provide students with the knowledge needed to make wise health care decisions and choices that may affect their life now and in the future.
Topics: Nutrition and Physical Activity Stress
Alcohol, Drugs, and Tobacco Bullying
Diseases and Disease Prevention Safety and the Environment
Class Requirements:
1. Pay attention and be involved in classroom discussions.
2. Bring pencil, paper, and agenda to class.
Weight Training and Physical Education:
Goal: Offer a wide variety of sports, skills, and activities for all students with the aim to develop the physical, mental, social, and emotional skills of all students. Introduce students to weight training and the importance of exercise.
Class Requirements: Students are graded mainly on PARTICIPATION. Therefore, it is important that the student comes prepared to participate. We do not require students to dress out, but it is important that they dress appropriately. Normal school dress is acceptable. If the girls decide to wear a dress or a skirt to school they should bring something appropriate to change into. Please note that proper gym shoes are a must (tennis shoes).
All students are required to participate in class each day. If a student has been ill and should not participate, he or she must bring a note written and signed by a parent. A note from a parent will only excuse a student from participation for up to 3 days in a 9 week period. If excuse extends past 3 days a doctor’s excuse may be required by the teacher.
Classroom, Weight Room, and Gym rules:
1. No food, drinks, or candy are allowed in any room.
2. Students should be on time and have agenda with them at all times.
3. Students are to be quiet and attentive when teacher begins class.
4. Students are not to leave gym, health room or weight room without permission and signed agenda.
5. Report all injuries immediately to your teacher.
6. Students will be familiar with the rules and regulations of the school and this class and is expected to follow them each day.
7. Students are to be seated in assigned section at the beginning of class for attendance and class intruction
